Elephant
Elephants are land mammals, and the largest land animal alive today. An elephant may live as extensive as 70 years, occasionally longer. Elephants are herbivores. Their day consists of collecting food, which takes up 16 hours of their day. Their diet is a collection of several plant foods, such as grass, leaves, bamboo, twigs, bark, roots, and small amounts of fruits, seeds and flowers.
Elephants are progressively more endangered by human intrusion and poaching. Their numbers have decreased immensely over the years. The elephant is now a protected species internationally, with limitations in position on capture, domestic use, and trade in merchandise such as ivory. In general elephants have no natural predators, although lions may take calves and seldom adults. In some areas, lions may commonly take to preying on elephants.
Below are images of this glorious creature, the African Elephant.
